With over 40 years of experience as an estate planning attorney, Colin brings a long-term perspective that few others can offer. He has not only helped clients create their estate plans — he has also guided families through the administration of those plans after a loved one has passed. This experience has given Colin deep insight into what works, what doesn’t, and how to avoid common pitfalls before they ever become problems. His goal is to help clients craft estate plans that are not only legally sound but also practical, effective, and built to stand the test of time.
Colin is a past Chair and President, respectively, of the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the Hawaii State Bar Association and of the Hawaii Estate Planning Council. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a member of the Hawaii Judiciary’s Probate Committee, officially known as the Judiciary’s Committee on the Uniform Probate Code and Probate Court Practices. Colin has served as an author and editor of several manuals and form books in the trust and estates, probate, and guardianship and conservatorship areas of the Hawaii law practice. He has also been a frequent presenter to the Probate and Estate Planning Section, Elder Law Section, Senior Counsel Division, Hawaii State Bar Association, and the Hawaii Estate Planning Council, as well as other professional financial, tax, and trust and estate groups, on the topics of estate planning, Medicaid, and special needs trusts. More recently, Colin served on the Hawaii Uniform Trust Code Committee up until the adoption of the UTC by the Hawaii Legislature and is currently a member of the Hawaii Legislature’s Uniform Guardianship, Conservatorship, and Other Protective Arrangements Act Working Group.
